In conversation with… James Maher
May 24th 2019
We chatted with Jigsaw Hero James Maher who is currently training for the Cork Marathon in aid of Jigsaw!
What inspired you to sign up to run this year’s Cork Marathon and to support Jigsaw?
It has always been a goal of mine to compete in a marathon before I was thirty, I signed up in January of this year and have dedicated the past few months to training consistently. Last year my fiancée, Claire, participated in the Women’s Mini Marathon in Dublin on behalf of Jigsaw and during her fundraising period, I became aware of the invaluable services that Jigsaw provide for young people in Ireland.
What are you most looking forward at the Cork Marathon?
The encouragement from the crowd throughout the race and also getting to the finish line in one piece!
Why do you think it is important to support Jigsaw and young people’s mental health?
The services that Jigsaw offer are fundamental in supporting young people through difficult periods of their life. I think the expansion of the services Jigsaw provide throughout Ireland is very important to address the nation’s mental health.
What other interests do you have?
I love running, swimming and everything outdoors. I often go out to the sea for some paddle boarding on my recovery days. I found the peace and quiet great to recover mentally and physically from all the training.
