Tell us a little about yourself…

Hi, I’m Aaron Murray and I’m 28 years old. I’m from Finglas in Dublin and I’ve been in the Defence Forces for over 6 years.

Why did you sign up for this 100km run challenge for Jigsaw?

I began this challenge to raise awareness of the amazing work Jigsaw do and to raise mental health awareness. Having struggled with my own mental health for most my life I find solace in helping others and it is one of the tools I have used to battle my own problems.

What are you most looking forward to about the challenge?

Finishing it! Also looking forward to the tough training leading up to it.

Why do you think it is important to support Jigsaw and young people’s mental health?

I feel education at a young age is vital to overcome the mental health problems we are encountering currently in the country. Unfortunately, I wasn’t aware of these services when I was going through my own struggles and I want to spread awareness that these services are available to young people so that they do not have to suffer like I once did.

What other interests / hobbies do you have?

I enjoy going to the gym and training in general as well as GAA and hiking.

Hi, I’m Cathal Flaherty and I’m 25 years old. I’m from Kinnitty in Co. Offaly and I’ve been in the Defence Forces over 6 years.

Why did you sign up for this 100km run challenge for Jigsaw?

I signed up for this challenge because it is for a great cause. We can all relate to mental health and it’s important to spread awareness of the help that is available to anyone going through a tough time.

What are you most looking forward to about the challenge?

I’m looking forward to spreading mental health awareness and knowing that we made a little difference having done this challenge.

Why do you think it is important to support Jigsaw and young people’s mental health?

It’s important because of a lot the youth these days are under pressure and can struggle with their mental health. If the youth can learn that it’s okay to speak out when they are struggling and to help one another it will pass onto the next generation

What other interests / hobbies do you have?

Football and Hurling.

Tell us a little about yourself…

Hi, I’m Derek McMahon and I’m 35 years old. I’m from Clondalkin in Dublin and I’ve been in the Defence Forces for over 17 years.

Why did you sign up for this 100km run challenge for Jigsaw?

I signed up for this challenge because when I was 15 years old I lost my father through cancer and it was a really tough time for me, I didn’t know how to process the loss and express my emotions and as a result I turned to substance abuse which I have thankfully gotten over. I never got the help that Jigsaw are providing, and I want to highlight their work so that kids who are going through a tough time are aware of these services that are available to them.

What are you most looking forward to about the challenge?

I’m really looking forward to the training with the lads and having the craic while doing so. I’m also looking forward to talking about why we are doing this challenge.

Why do you think it is important to support Jigsaw and young people’s mental health?

I think it’s important to get the message out to young kids that it’s okay to talk and to highlight these services that are available to them.

What other interests / hobbies do you have?

Spending quality time with my wife and kids, basketball, training and poker.
