About us

While Jigsaw is a mental health service, it is also specifically an early intervention service for young people at a primary care level. This means that Jigsaw helps young people going through mild to moderate mental health difficulties. We aim to offer support at difficult periods of their lives before these issues become more serious and in need of longer, more intensive health supports.

Direct support for young people

Getting support early on can help strengthen a young person’s resilience for the future, teaching them positive ways to cope with difficulties. This can prevent problems before they snowball into something less manageable. It can prevent some young people from developing long-term and serious mental health problems later in life.

Working with young people

At Jigsaw, we believe it is vital to make sure young people’s voices are heard. Our Youth Advocates represent us and take part in decision making at every level.

Working with the community

As well as directly helping young people in tough times, we want to work towards a community that is supportive of mental health and wellbeing. Presentations and workshops in schools, workplaces and community groups aim to open up a discussion on mental health and raise people’s awareness of the support that Jigsaw Dublin South West can offer.

Tell us about your experience

At Jigsaw, we care passionately about what we do and strive to give young people the best possible support with their mental health. If you are happy, or unhappy, with our service in any way, you can provide feedback by completing our online feedback form.

I began with the Jigsaw Dublin South West team in March 2020. Working with the young people and communities of Dublin South West, I am keen to help educate and empower people to speak confidently about mental health. In doing so, we hope to dispel some of the common misconceptions about mental health.

My volunteering began as a teenager in Tallaght with the St. Aengus’s week annual Knockadoon Residential Camp in Cork. Here I discovered a love of working with young people. I lived in Belfast and Boston to further my interest volunteering with young people and completed a Springboard (or Fás, at the time) course .

I then studied Youth and Community Work in the Liberties, Dublin. From there, I spent many years working as a Youth Worker with the traveller community. At 27,  I completed a social care degree in D.I.T. and then worked for years in crisis intervention. Here really began my interest and passion for promoting and supporting young people’s mental health.

I had no plans for moving to Ireland as I had an offer to study elsewhere. But at the last minute, life had other ideas. Here I am five years later and considering Irish citizenship. Sometimes things work out for the best, in a way we least expect.

Study and work

My background is as a Counselling Psychologist. I graduated in 2021 from Trinity College Dublin

What attracted me to Jigsaw was the combination of working with Young People and Mental Health, two areas I am passionate about! The opportunities are many- gaining insight from our Youth Advocates, delivering workshops to community organisations and schools- all the while reducing stigma for young people to live a balanced life.

I began my social care career with St. Vincent DePaul in school (many moons ago) and never looked back, always wanting to help people in some form. I began with an Applied Social Care Degree then went on to a BA in Applied Addiction Studies. I have worked in Disability, Psychiatry, a Secure Care unit, assessed Prisoners pre-release, volunteered full time in Homeless Addiction Services and worked a number of outreach roles to engage and support young people most “At-Risk” and support their families.

Over the years I have noticed that there is huge merit in early intervention and a preventative approach, something which older prisoners talked about frequently- they wished that someone was there for them earlier on in their life when things got difficult. I am solution focused and a firm believer in a problem shared is a problem halved, learning that outside the comfort zone is where the magic really happens. I am still learning, each and every day.

Fun fact: I lived in Belgium for 10 years and fluent in French and Spanish.
