Lunchtime Lecture - Bereavement through Suicide: Supporting Families, Children and Young People Through the Grief Process
Colette Lynskey, Counselling Coordinator, for Console Dublin delivered a lecture on “Supporting families, children and young people through the grief process.” Console is a national organisation which responds to the needs of those bereaved through suicide. Console has offices in Dublin, Galway, Cork, Wexford and Limerick, as well as outreach centres in Athlone and Clondalkin.
Console provides a variety of services including; individual & family counselling, counselling for children and teens, therapy and support groups, publications & literature, workshops and conferences, community outreach programmes and education programmes.
Colette talked about the grief process and suicide bereavement, helping families and children, the particulars of working with young people bereaved by suicide, practical tips on what to say and what not to say, the need for recovery and hope and finally self care.
