Jigsaw is a new concept! "Well what is it?"

Hi, my name is James. I’m a member of the Reachout.com Youth Advisory Network and also a member of Jigsaw Meath’s Youth Advisory Panel. I’ve been involved with Jigsaw Meath for about 3 years now and finally I’m beginning to see the results unfolding. It’s taken a long time but finally we’ve got there! Our new youth cafe recently opened in the centre of Navan. It’s a place where we have many different activities on every day. From movie nights to group workshops on meditation and stress management. However the Jigsaw Meath cafe is not an ordinary Youth cafe as it also has another side to it. Jigsaw also offers one-to-one support if you require it, but at the same time, there are times when there’s nothing better to do than have a cup of tea and a chat with your mates or even the Jigsaw Meath staff, and you can do that too!

The purpose of writing this article is basically to make people aware that there are supports like Jigsaw Meath out there, in case you need face-to-face help. Jigsaw Meath is just one of five Headstrong sites established throughout the country. There are also Jigsaw sites in Ballymun, Galway, Roscommon and Kerry, and plenty more in the pipeline! So if there’s not one near you now, there will be soon!

Of course to most young people Jigsaw is a new concept and lots of people ask the question “Well, what is it?” Basically Jigsaw Meath is a free support service for all young people in Meath aged 12-25. The aim of Jigsaw Meath is basically to better support the wellbeing needs of the age bracket above. Our staff in the Jigsaw Meath cafe are there to help young people in a confidential and non judgemental way. This means to listen to what young people have to say, discuss your options depending on the situation and provide information, as well as one-to-one support sessions if required. I think that the big thing to remember is that the wellbeing support is there if you need it, but you can just drop in for a quick chat and cup of tea or even to one of our movie nights, to use the internet or even work on your O2 Think Big project.
