Amy's Story

I didn’t know what Jigsaw was before I started using the service. I’d seen it in town, of course, but I’d never been told about the service. It was my mother who came to me and suggested I try it out, and I’ve never regretted the decision to go along.

As someone who walked in the front door not knowing what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised by how kind and friendly everyone was. Jigsaw is understanding and completely non-judgemental. That was something I really needed when I was at rock bottom.

It’s hard being a young person nowadays. Between relationships, friends, jobs and school, there isn’t a lot of time to focus on yourself. Sometimes things just get you down, and when you’re so busy trying to make everyone proud and make a success of yourself, it’s all too easy to ignore your worries. You let those little worries and doubts build up unchecked, and soon enough they start to bleed into the rest of your life. Before you know it, you’ve got a big problem on your hands and you don’t know where to turn.

Jigsaw was a lifeline for me, as it has been for so many other young people. Not only were the staff there to help, to support me when I was at my worst and listen to me even when I felt as though my problems were silly, they also taught me how to cope.

They taught me that I had the strength to get through a dark time when I had honestly given up on myself. That, I think, was the best tool Jigsaw gave me — faith in myself.

When times are hard, it helps to have someone there to listen, but the most important thing a person can do is tell you that they believe in you, that they know you can get through it. When you rebuild your confidence, you can start to tackle your problems head-on. I didn’t believe that there was any hope for me, but the people at Jigsaw showed me that there was.

There’s hope for everyone, and I think that’s a fact we can all too easily forget when we’re in the depths of despair. It’s my firm belief that Jigsaw can help just about anyone get back on their feet, and the best part is they’re just a phonecall away. No problem is too small, no worry too insignificant — Jigsaw is there to help no matter what!

I wouldn’t be where I am today if I hadn’t walked through that door a year ago. It’s the best decision I ever made.
