Jigsaw Galway Stories
Peter's Story
When I first walked into Jigsaw, I really didn’t know what to expect. For the past two-and-a-half years, I had faced a constant battle against my own self-inflicted harshness... resulting in a severe low in self-esteem and self-worth. This virtually paralysed me in nearly all aspects of my own life ranging from family to relationships, and even education.
Mike's Story
As a 23 year old I moved to Galway. I was from another country and had no family in the area.
From as young as I can remember I struggled with mental health issues, in particular anger and substance abuse. The lack of support and lack of stability I had in this country heightened all of my symptoms.
Amy's Story
I didn’t know what Jigsaw was before I started using the service. I’d seen it in town, of course, but I’d never been told about the service. It was my mother who came to me and suggested I try it out, and I’ve never regretted the decision to go along.
Aoife's Story
Aoife speaks about her experience with Jigsaw…
I found out about Jigsaw Galway through a friend who had used the service, so I knew it existed. Then I came home one day and my housemate told me that she was self-harming. I was in a really, really bad way and it freaked me out… she was suicidal, so I was like “Holy crap! What do I do?”
Mairead's Story
Marie was the first person I came into contact with when I dropped into Jigsaw. After emailing first, I knew it was a welcoming place. Even on our first meeting, Marie was very kind to me and treated my every word with importance. It was exactly what I needed at that moment as I was feeling very alone and down living in Galway by myself.
