It brought all the Youth Advisory Panels from around the country together for a fantastic day of learning and awareness raising. For the first time the event was youth-led, involving members from Jigsaw Youth Advisory Panels on the organising committee. All the hard work really shone through on the day. It's all about getting the message out to young people that we can do things to take care of our mental health. The format of the YLN was changed from the presentations of previous years to involve much more interaction through workshops, these engaged and taught the young people skills that they will hopefully pass on to their peers, parents, teachers or coaches. Open group discussions were also a new addition for the YLN. Questions, such as "Where would you like to see mental health in Ireland in 2030?", sparked debate and got the young people talking about youth mental health with the aim that they will continue the debate in their respective communities. The Youth Advisory Panels (YAPs) are a core element of what Headstrong and Jigsaw do, which makes special days like this one all the more important. There was also plenty of opportunity to meet and mix with YAP members from other locations throughout the day. A special thanks has to go out to The National College of Ireland for their kind and generous hospitality, the organising committee, and also to the Headstrong YAP Intern Annie O'Dowd, who has been a trooper through the whole planning process. Dylan Harnett, Youth Advisory Panel member for both Headstrong and Jigsaw Kerry Dylan is part of Headstrong and Jigsaw Kerry’s Youth Advisory Panel. The involvement and contribution of young people is central to our work at Headstrong, so if you are aged between 17 and 25 years, and would like to find out more about what we do, please contact info@headstrong.ie [metaslider id=5423]
